Écorché (ekorshay - a'kôr-sha'): An anatomically accurate "flayed" figure, traditionally constructed from clay. Beginning with the skeleton and building to include all or part of the body, the figure displays musculature.
Écorché is studied by students of realist drawing, painting, and sculpture -- those who wish to enhance their study of anatomy.
