Simi
Nerina Simi / Nera Simi: Daughter and student of famous Italian painter, Filadelfo Simi (1849-1923). Filadelfo Simi had trained under Jean-Léon Gérôme, artist, professor and Director of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris during the 1870s.
Inspired by the naturalist movement, Filadelfo Simi contributed to a unique new blending of the training offered in the academic tradition at the Ecole with the new naturalist inspiration exhibited in the works of the Barbizon school; the Macchiaioli (e-mäk-keiô´le) Italian naturalist / impressionist movement.
At the age of 33, Nerina Simi (Nera) inherited her father's Atelier upon his death [in 1923]. For the nest 64 years, she ran one of the most important drawing ateliers in Florence, Italy, Studio de Nera Simi.
A respected colleague of Italian realist Pietro Annigoni, as related in Paintings With Annigoni: A Halcyon Decade As a Student in Florence 1958-68 By Dawn Cookson, Nera Simi trained and prepared students who wished to apply for an apprenticeship with Annigoni.
