Adrian Gottlieb shares his working studio with a select group of up to 9 students and colleagues who wish to pursue introductory through advanced painting methods and techniques. Private instruction may be available for up to two additional highly promising students who require preparation for acceptance to the painting program.
Students work under north-facing natural light from skylights in a 1500 sq. foot studio space. 5500k fluorescent tubes with wide reflector hoods provide supplemental lighting as necessary.
Student Class Commitment
The student's class commitment for the painting program includes 8 hours of instruction and studio work per week. The completion of out-of-studio assignments for class review is an enrollment acceptance requirement.
Application Process for PAINTING THE FIGURE IN OIL
Student applications are accepted throughout the year.
The application process for Painting the Figure in Oil is based on portfolio review and communication with the applicant. Student qualifications are determined by Adrian Gottlieb. Application is not a guarantee of acceptance.
The Studio
The studio environment is purposefully small and intimate. Adrian places a great deal of value on group dynamics. If feasible, qualified applicants may be asked to interview in person in addition to completing the on-line application, or contacting Adrian via email. If an applicant lives out of the area, a telephone interview may be requested.
Materials Workshops
Separate Workshops covering the tools of the painter, and archival materials preparation from preparing canvas grounds to pigment grinding, cleaning oils, preparing mediums, varnishes and more, are occasionally offered as needed to meet the needs of the evolving student body.

The Mechanics of Oil Painting
For the serious student of painting.
Unique, 8 session, in-depth program
Sundays, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
The application process for The Mechanics of Painting is open admission, no portfolio review required. This course is not offered on a regular, ongoing basis.
Registration
Registration is for ten week terms. However, four terms are offered per year to accommodate long-term study in the atelier tradition.
The Application
Applicants are welcome to use the simple On-line Application form which has been designed specifically for easy uploading of your images of example drawings and/or paintings. The form includes a commentary option for those who wish to provide any additional information.
Adrian receives a great deal of email. The application ensures your work has been directed to a dedicated email address set up specifically for this purpose.

Tuition
Tuition for PAINTING THE FIGURE IN OIL is $800.00 per ten week session.
A deposit of $200.00 is due upon notification of acceptance and will hold your place in the program.
The tuition balance of $600.00 must be paid in full before the start of the new term.
Waiting List
When class offerings are full, qualified applicants may request to be placed on the waiting list.
Typically, students who have been enrolled in the continuing program are given first priority to re-register for subsequent classes.
Scholarships
Adrian Gottlieb offers a small and personalized interactive experience.. He teaches from his own working studio, so scholarships and grants are not available. However, funding for atelier education is available through private philanthropic foundations, organizations and programs. For additional information, please click here.
