Atelier Instructors: In ateliers and realist academies, the word "instructor" is generally used to refer to assistants and not official faculty members.
Instructors may be selected by the painter or sculptor who teaches a traditonal Atelier program, or in the case of larger academy programs, a Director and/or an academic board.
Instructors are typically chosen from a "core" group of students who have achieved specific skill levels.
Instructors may be called upon to independently teach introductory or less complex methods and techniques. In the case of advanced students and those who have completed the program, choosing to stay on to address their own focus, an instructor may take on the responsibility of teaching advanced applications. Instructors frequently serve as assistants to full faculty members teaching a studio class.
The position of instructor is an honor. In select cases instructors who complete the program may be asked to join the official faculty.
